Those who hope in Christ and serve from the place of love, lay up glory and honor for eternity. Those who trust themselves (seek after their own way), lay up eternal wrath and never-ending punishment in the day of judgement.
Like a dream, we will awaken from mortality to immortality. Our destination (heaven/hell) will be set and we will be bound to the measure of glory or wrath we stored for ourselves in our short, transient journey we call ‘life’.
Some of the deepest truths in scripture hold consequences so grave that they can seem too crushing to consider. Many passover such concepts in search of less weighty ideals to pacify their conscience. Like children who prefer sweets instead of veggies – our preference for smooth sermons over sobering messages, only hurt us in the end.
I want to feel the weight of truth now (and respond accordingly) rather than be crushed by the truth later (when I stand before the Lord).
Romans 2:5-7
5 But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
6 He will judge everyone according to what they have done.
7 He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers.
8 But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness.
